Dewar’s White Label is one of the most iconic blended Scotch whiskies, known for its smoothness and balanced flavor profile. John Dewar & Sons was founded in 1846 in Perth, Scotland. Dewar’s White Label was created in 1899.

Puzzling is the spelling on this inkwell, marked “Dewers”. There is no evidence that the Dewar distillery ever used the name “Dewers”, nor is there any trace of a different White Label whisky made by a “Dewers”. This inkwell was likely made in Scotland or Canada where the term “Whisky” not “Whiskey” is used. The consistent engraving, the uniform finish and patina, and the branding indicate this inkwell was manufactured. Was there a manufacturing error? Based on knowledge from years of collecting and research which included looking for this style of inkwell marked with other products, this is a one-of-a-kind piece. And still an enigma.
