A cold-painted cast bronze pen wipe in the form of a devil or satyr. Set in the devil’s body are densely packed boar’s hair bristles made stiff to clean the nibs of dip pens. They prevented clogging by removing excess ink. It is marked on the inside of a leg “Geschutzt” – the German equivalent of a patent (“protected”). Attributed to Bergmann.
