A soldier stands in front of a drum (which holds the inkwell). He wears a drum-shaped hat, shoulder epaulets on his blue coat, and blue striped trousers. The bottom of the inkstand is marked with “the three bells” (De Drie Klokken). De Drie Klokken (1670-1841) was a Dutch Delftware pottery. The inkwell is attributed to the Jan Van Putten & Co.
