A cut crystal oval-shaped inkwell with a sterling silver hinged lid. The lid is marked “Black, Starr & Frost” and numbered X2032. The lid features an intricate, florid monogram. The exact initials are hard to decipher due to the elaborate design. The body of the inkwell is made from cut crystal. The sterling silver lid, with its rounded dome shape, complements the crystal body.
Black, Starr & Frost, previously known as Marquand and Co, is an American jewelry company. Founded in 1810 as Marquand and Co., the company is the oldest continuously operating jewelry firm in the United States. The company has acted as a retailer, rather than manufacturer, for most of its history.
