This chinoiserie patterned inkstand depicts Oriental themes in gold overglaze on a black background (“black willow”). There are images of pagodas, bridges, and boats surrounded by clouds, mountains, and trees. The set is complete with two attached inkwells, inserts, and lids.
The inkstand bears the Crown Staffordshire printed mark, an impressed crown, and the English patent registration mark 58900, dating this piece to 1911. Also on the underside is the retailer’s information: T. Goode Co. of South Audley St, London West. T. Goode was one of the top retailers in London during this period.
