Attributed to Stölzle & Sons, this cranberry red iridescent glass inkwell features a bronze Satyr head hinged lid and decorative metal overlay showcasing four classic Art Nouveau panels. The panels with sweeping ribbons, wreaths and Satyr faces match the inkwell’s lid.

Underneath the lid are registered design numbers – D.E.P. 10385, R.G.M. 168180. These marks trace back to Austrian / Bohemian manufacturer Stölzle & Sons. Stölzle’s Glass was one of the biggest glass companies in Bohemia. Sometimes it was called Stölzle’s Glass Empire. Carl Anton Stölzle started his glass business in the 1830’s, and it was expanded to many more factories in Bohemia. The Suchenthal factory was the biggest one among his glass factories at the end of the 19th century.
