This cut-glass inkwell is crafted from vibrant cranberry glass, a material prized for its rich, ruby-red hue achieved by adding gold during the glassmaking process. The inkwell’s form features a square base with rounded corners. The glass is meticulously cut with intricate patterns, including a repeating geometric design on the body and a starburst pattern on the bottom. A bulbous, rounded lid, also cut with radiating lines, complements the base. The fittings are brass. The name “E.F. Green” (presumably the owner) is inscribed on the collar. Beneath the hinged lid lies a faceted glass stopper. This stopper would have provided an extra layer of protection against ink evaporation.
