A woman is seated at a harpsichord (piano), her hands poised as if playing. Beside her sits a man with his arm affectionately around her shoulder. The inkstand is molded and hand-painted in detail. The woman wears a dress with intricate floral patterns and beading. The gentleman wears knee-length breeches, white stockings, and black shoes with buckles. Sheet music with distinct notes is on a stand above the keyboard.
The top half of the inkstand lifts off to reveal two inkwells and a sander. Four examples of this inkstand are shown. They were made in different sizes and with different finishes. German in origin. Likely made by Conta Boehme.
