This inkstand, created by Art Metal Works in Newark, NJ, dates to 1913 and features an inkwell and a built-in clock. The clock has a round face with black numerals and hands, accompanied by a smaller dial. In front of the clock, a broomstick and a mop are crossed. At the sides of the clock are barrels and crates marked with product names.

The inkstand is adorned with embossed inscriptions that celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Jos. Speidel Grocery Co., a business established in 1863 and commemorated in 1913. These inscriptions include:

  • Front left: “1863”
  • Front right: “1913”
  • Front center: “Jos.” Speidel Grocery Co. 50th Anniversary”
  • Top center: “Wheeling W.Va.”

Additional embossed elements on the sides reference goods like “Speidel Coffee”, “Fancy Patent Flour,” “Matches,”, “Fine Granulated Sugar”, “Tobacco,” and “Soaps,” reflecting products sold by the grocery company.
