Features of the Inkstand

  • Materials and Construction: The inkstand’s base is a heavy, cast metal with a patinated bronze finish. It’s designed for a desktop or mantel. The base is ornately decorated with rococo-inspired flourishes and scrollwork.
  • Inkwell: A clear, faceted glass inkwell is recessed into the base. It is topped with a separate metal lid that matches the base’s finish and decorative style.
  • Clock: The central element is a wind-up clock manufactured by the Western Clock Co., as indicated by the markings on the back of the clock mechanism. The clock has a patent date of October 28, 1902.  The clock face is enameled and features Arabic numerals. The clock itself is set into the metal frame, which has a decorative bezel that complements the rest of the piece.
