This cloisonné inkwell from France features vibrant enamel colors, including blue, red, white and gold, arranged in detailed patterns on bronze. The domed lid matches the enamel design. The base is scalloped and elaborately decorated. Cloisonné is a technique where enamel is applied within compartments (cloisons) created by metal wires or strips, resulting in a highly decorative and colorful finish.
There is a label attached to the underside for the retailer, Milgatini. Maison Molgatini was a renowned jewelry and luxury goods retailer at 75 Rue Royale, Orleans, France. They were known for their exquisite pieces, such as the gold, emerald, and precious stones and retailed around the late 19th century.
