This silver inkstand has a rectangular base with scroll feet and incised with an array of relief decoration. In the front is an applied ornament for monogramming and a pen holder. The two inkwells have hinged lids with cherub finials. A classical female figure – possibly Athena or Venus – carrying a scroll and a sword stands on a pedestal in the middle. No markings found, except for the letters “MS” impressed on the bottom of one foot.
Sold for $892 in September 2007.
