This celadon jade inkwell is mounted on a reticulated silver stand that is stamped “Edward I. Farmer / New York / Sterling. The silver base is screwed in through the base of the jade. The body of the inkwell is carved in relief with three sinuous chilong dragons. The fitted lid is surmounted with a writhing dragon.
Edward I. Farmer (1872 – 1942), an antique dealer and collector of Chinese jades and porcelains, operated an art gallery in New York, NY.
