Design Features
- Material: Cast in gilded brass, with a warm gold finish.
- Structure: The base is richly adorned with scrollwork, floral motifs, and stylized foliage, typical of Rococo Revival design.
- Inkwells: Two cut glass or crystal inkwells are set into recessed mounts, each topped with lift-off lids. Each lid is adorned with a raised bust of a woman, rendered in profile with detailed hair and classical features.
- Central Figure: A winged cherub or angel sits atop the central arch, rendered in relaxed pose with detailed wings and classical drapery.
Origin and Date – Likely Made in France
- The stylistic vocabulary—cherubs, scrollwork, and gilded brass—strongly suggests French origin, particularly from Parisian ateliers or provincial foundries producing luxury desk accessories.
- Similar pieces appear in French catalogs and auction listings.
Estimated Date: Circa 1890–1910
- The Rococo Revival style peaked in the late 19th century, especially in decorative arts.
- The presence of a cherub, combined with symmetrical layout and glass inkwells, aligns with late Victorian and early Art Nouveau aesthetics.
