Materials & Technique:
- Crafted from bronze, the inkstand shows the champlevé enameling technique, where cells are carved into the metal surface and filled with vividly colored enamel.
- The enamel work features a rich palette of cobalt blue, ivory white, crimson red, and gold.
Design & Structure:
- The base is symmetrically designed with scalloped edges and ornate scrollwork, forming a harmonious frame for the two inkwells.
- Each inkwell is topped with a hinged lid adorned by a pineapple finial—a symbol of hospitality and refinement in Victorian decorative arts.
- The lids themselves are enameled with raised floral designs that echo the motifs on the base.
- Between the inkwells lies a recessed tray, likely intended for pens or blotting tools, bordered by intricate enamel vines and blossoms.
