This Art Nouveau bronze inkstand is signed “R. Zoll”.  A man is casting a large net which spreads across the base of the inkstand. The intended recipient of the case net is a mermaid, positioned among an outcropping of rocks. The outcropping holds the inkwell.

The signature “R. Zoll” is present, identifying the artist as Richard Zoll (1865-1956), a German sculptor and medalist associated with the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) movement.
