This 19th-century carved wooden inkwell is designed in the shape of a hat, with the word “Montreux” carved into the brim. The wood appears to be dark and smooth, possibly walnut, given its rich color and grain. The craftsmanship is evident in the detailed floral design on the top of the hat, with petals radiating from the center. The fold in the hat is designed to hold a pen.
Montreux is a picturesque town located on the northeastern shore of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. It lies at the foot of the Alps in the canton of Vaud. Known for its stunning scenery and mild climate, Montreux is often referred to as the “Pearl of Lake Geneva”.
