This rectangular inkstand is made of carved, dark-stained wood with a visible grain. It consists of a flat base with a raised back panel.
- Design and Carving: The most prominent feature is the detailed carving. The back panel is a raised relief. On either side, a mirror-image carving depicts a jousting knight on horseback, lance in hand, with a distinctive helmet and an intricately patterned shield. The carving style is robust and stylized.
- Functional Features: The main surface of the inkstand has two square, hinged lids. When lifted, they reveal the white ceramic inkwells. The lids themselves are carved with a miniature version of the jousting knight motif from the back panel.
- Detailing: The front edge of the stand is decorated with a row of simple, geometric carved triangles. There is a pen channel in the front. The underside shows the simple, solid construction of the piece, with the feet attached by screws.
