This inkstand was constructed (and patented) so that the ink would be readily delivered for use by keeping the ink in the cup of the funnel. This was accomplished by turning a screw-nut on the neck of the funnel until the ink rose to the desired height. The screw-on lid is marked “Carter’s Automatic Inkstand – Daisy – Dinsmore & Co, Boston – Pat June 3 1890”. (Patent can be seen with the pictures).
