Austrian bronze inkstand depicts a young girl wearing a large hat carrying baskets overflowing with fruit. She is flanked by inkwells with hinged lids on each side, with a frontal pen tray – all with a nice rich aged patina.
The inkstand is signed “P. Tereszczuk” (Austrian, 1875 – 1963) and impressed with the “AR” foundry mark. Peter Tereszczuk was born in 1875 in Ukraine and lived in Vienna from 1895 to 1925. He created bronze sculptures, sometimes with delicate ivory elements as with this inkstand.
