This brass combination inkstand and letter holder, marked with the “Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Co.” diamond mark on the bottom, includes two inkwells with hinged lids, each adorned with intricate designs. The base and sides are elaborately decorated with ornate patterns inspired by a blend of Middle Eastern and Oriental styles. The front letter holder divider showcases an embossed side profile of Mercury, the Roman god known for being the messenger of the gods, emphasizing the theme of communication and delivery. At the top of each letter holder divider is a design resembling a fleur-de-lis. The inkstand includes curved channels on each side and in the front for holding pens. The Bradley & Hubbard Manufacturing Company was known for producing high-quality metalwork items in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
