This cut crystal inkwell with pen ledges, believed to be Baccarat, is encased in a gilt bronze filigree with ormolu accents. The casing features griffins and other decorative elements. The inkwell dates to around 1904, as indicated by the inscription on the lid.
The lid of the inkwell is a round, golden medallion with a figure kneeling and sculpting a bust on a pedestal. This central figure is surrounded by ornate decorations, including floral elements and columns on either side. The inscription on the lid reads: “A Mlle Poittevin Ses Employés Reconnaissants Dinan 1904,” indicating that the inkwell was a gift to “Mlle Poittevin” from her grateful employees in Dinan, dated 1904. Additionally, there is a label affixed to the bottom reading “Camard Dimer,” presumed to be the retailer.
