A brass inkstand, rich in detail, from the Art Nouveau periods with its naturalistic motifs. Two sides of the inkstand feature stylized peacocks with their long flowing tails sweeping outwards and downwards forming curved pen rests.
- Overall Form: The inkstand has a central, square-shaped well for the ink bottle (which is likely missing, with the lid serving as the prominent feature here). This central well is elevated on an ornate base. On two opposing sides, highly stylized elements extend outwards, functioning as integrated pen rests.
- Central Inkwell and Lid: The main body of the inkstand is a square block. Atop it sits a circular, domed lid.
- Floral, Berry, and Pinecone Decorations: The entire surface of the inkstand is heavily embellished with botanical motifs.
- On the front and back faces of the central square well, there are prominent floral designs, depicting large blooms like chrysanthemums or similar flowers with broad petals, intermingled with leaves.
- Around the base of the peacocks and integrated into the overall scrolling forms, one can discern clusters of berries (small, round forms) and what appear to be pinecones, adding a naturalistic touch and varying texture.
