Description: This inkstand is crafted from brass. Its design is flowing and organic, typical of the Art Nouveau movement. The overall shape is somewhat elongated and curvilinear, with a central elevated section for the inkwell.
The surface of the inkstand is adorned with detailed floral relief decoration. On either side of the central inkwell, there are stylized flowers and flowing stems. The front portion of the inkstand is flattened and serves as a pen tray.
The inkwell itself is integrated into the design. It has a hinged lid that opens to reveal the ink reservoir. The lid features its own decorative floral motifs, mirroring the overall design. Inside, there is an original green glass insert. On the underside of the inkstand, the number “10” is impressed, likely a pattern or mold number. There is no visible maker’s mark.
Style: The stylized floral motifs, the organic lines, and the overall aesthetic strongly point to the Art Nouveau period, which roughly spans from the 1890s to the 1910s. The absence of a prominent maker’s mark is not uncommon for decorative metalware of this era, especially if produced by smaller workshops or as part of a larger line where the emphasis was on design rather than prominent branding.
