At a time when better angels guarded the U.S. Capitol, this inkstand features an angel watching over the Capitol building. Above the building is a glass inkwell with an ornate repoussé lid and a pen holder. The inkstand, made of gilded metal (probably spelter), is footed, and has ornate scrolls.
