This Wavecrest opaline glass inkwell features a white base with a swirled, cloud-like pattern typical of opaline glass, all resting on a four-footed stand. The base is adorned with delicate floral designs, showcasing pink flowers and green leaves. The hinged lid is ornate, with embossed patterns that include swirls and stylized floral motifs.

In 1880, Charles Fabyan Monroe started selling imported glass in Meriden, Connecticut. Soon this evolved into a shop with a decorating studio and a showroom, which he named the C.F. Monroe Company. Much of the glassware was made by Pairpoint Manufacturing Company of Sagamore, Massachusetts, and French factories. Three names were used on the pieces: Wavecrest, registered in 1892; Nakara, which was in use about the same time but never registered; and Kelva, registered in 1904.
