This 18th-century carved soapstone inkwell from New England is square-shaped with a circular opening at the top, surrounded by concentric rings. The stone has a weathered and aged appearance. One of the bottom corners is chipped. The initials “JHM” are carved on one side, while the other side features some unidentified letters.
