This wonderful inkstand is made of sterling silver that was then gilded to appear gold. It features a small carved ivory cherub seated on a bench, reading a booklet – or possibly a letter. The removable inkwell is engraved glass with a decorative brass lid.
The base is stamped Sterling. There is no maker stamp, although there is a large decorative element on the base. I have wondered if this might indicate the maker, but am not certain. This is a lovely, beautifully made inkstand and I’ve not seen one like it, which makes it difficult to research.
