This cold-painted metal inkwell features a prone polychrome dwarf (or gnome) next to a cloth sack with rope tie and a pipe. The pipe chamber could have held pen nibs or may once have contained a brush for a pen wipe. Given the smoking motif, this piece may be a match holder or combination match holder / inkwell.
