Ma and Pa Carter Inx were originally advertised in the Saturday Evening Post of September 12, 1914. The ad read “Mr. & Mrs. Carter Inx – the little porcelain inkstands that made such a hit last fall, lead the Carter line, and bring to your desk a personality that will be an inspiration.” These advertising gimmicks were given away with 25-cent coupons that were included in Carter’s advertisements. They were first made in Germany. When production was interrupted by WWI, they were made in the U.S. Patented January 6, 1914.
Ma is red and is holding a rolling pin. Pa is blue, wary of Ma’s intentions. Popular and produced in mass quantities, the pair is readily available in today’s market.
Estimated value: $40 for the pair
