This is a formal inkstand designed for a late 19th or early 20th-century writing desk.

  • Overall Form: A long, shallow, rectangular desk stand featuring two inkwells and a central pen holder.
  • Base/Frame: The stand is made of silver-plated metal.
    • Shape: The base is rectangular with square corners.
    • Border: The frame’s edge is detailed with a decorative border composed of a series of small, button-like or cabochon ornaments (circular bosses) running continuously around the entire perimeter.
    • Pen Holder: The central section has a raised prong at each side  designed to hold a pen.
  • Inkwells:
    • Body: They are made of thick, clear crystal and are heavily cut.
    • Lids: The hinged lids are faceted crystal, matching the body of the inkwells.

The style remains consistent with the high-end manufacturers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries who produced silver-plated accessories.

  • Style: Victorian/Edwardian Revival, specifically drawing on ornate Continental Revival styles (like German or French interpretations of Renaissance or Baroque detail) using the buttoned/bossed border.
