Materials & Construction:

  • Base & Mounts: Crafted from gilt bronze, the metalwork is adorned with scrolling acanthus leaves, floral garlands, and symmetrical rocaille motifs.
  • Inkwell: The central vessel is made of marbled glass— a combination of red, pink, and white swirls—evoking the look of agate or jasperware. The ribbed or bulbous form is encased in a finely chased bronze cage.
  • Lid & Finial: The hinged lid is topped with a sculpted rose or floral finial, echoing the romanticism of the overall design.
  • Stylistic Influence: The piece draws from Louis XV and Rococo traditions, with asymmetrical flourishes and organic motifs.
