This gilt bronze inkwell is set upon a base of polished onyx.
- Base: The base is a square of highly polished onyx, which displays natural veins of different colors.
- Inkwell: The inkwell itself is a separate component, crafted from gilt bronze (bronze that has been coated with a thin layer of gold). The body is round and has a raised, ornate decoration around its circumference.
- Lid and Finial: The hinged lid of the inkwell is also gilt bronze and is topped with a finely detailed acorn finial, which serves as a handle. The lid has a decorative floral or leafy pattern on its surface, complementing the design on the body.
