This faceted inkwell made of vibrant cobalt blue glass is an example of late-19th-century American glassware.

  • Shape & Body: The inkwell has a solid, octagonal (8-sided) body. The thick glass walls are meticulously cut with eight flat, vertical panels that extend from the base to the shoulder.
  • Shoulder & Dome: Just above the main body, the glass curves inward to form a domed shoulder, which is decorated with another series of eight angled cut panels.
  • Lid: The lid is a pointed, faceted dome that mirrors the octagonal shape of the inkwell’s body. It is also decorated with sharp, precise cut panels, creating a crown-like effect when closed.
  • Hinge & Collar: A brass ring collar is fitted around the neck of the inkwell, to which the hinged lid is attached. The hinge itself is a simple barrel hinge.
