The main body of the inkwell is a single, heavy block of clear crystal. The bottom and sides are heavily faceted. A brass collar is fitted around the neck of the inkwell, and a hinged brass lid is attached to it. The lid itself is also made of a cut crystal piece.
The inkwell has a multi-sided, hexagonal shape. The base is decorated with a deep, lattice pattern of intersecting lines, forming a grid of square shapes. This pattern is cut into the bottom of the glass, creating a sparkling effect. The upper part of the inkwell is smooth and polished.
