This cast iron inkstand was made in a cabinet-like form. The exterior of the cabinet is decorated with raised designs of stylized bird and floral or foliate patterns. Each of the two hinged doors has a knob for opening. When opened, one finds an inkwell attached to the inside of each door. The top surface of the inkstand has a raised rim. Resting within this rim is a round cushion covered in a velvet-like material, which functioned as a pen wipe. Extending forward from the cabinet section is a horizontal tray with scalloped sides, which serves as a pen rest.
