On the front Ponce de Leon stands before a subservient Indian. Inscribed on the reverse: “Reproduction of the original casque [French word for “helmet”] found at the Fountain of Youth in the Coquina Cross representing the landing of Ponce de Leon at St Augustine Fla 1513”. The piece was probably made for the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
