This desk set, signed by Alphonse Giroux, has as its centerpiece a detailed figurine of a woman dressed in historical attire, perhaps from the revolutionary period. Her clothing includes a jacket with military detailing and a full skirt made of red fabric. She holds a purse or travel bag in each hand. Her head, when detached, becomes a sealer. At her feet lies a basket and an inkwell designed to resemble a drum.

Alphonse Giroux (1776 – 1848) was renowned for creating luxurious and finely crafted items in the 19th century, often catering to the aristocratic and bourgeois society.
