This brass inkstand marked “Mappin & Webb” has a square base with rounded corners. The intricate filigree work on the base features elaborate patterns that seem to incorporate Oriental motifs, including horsemen.

At the center of the base is a raised circular well with a hinged lid, topped by a finial shaped like a floral bud or flame. The lid itself is adorned with detailed patterns that complement the overall ornate design. Surrounding the square base are two symmetrical extensions with scalloped edges.

Mappin & Webb, known for their fine silverware and luxury goods, likely produced this inkwell in the late 19th or early 20th century, a period when Orientalism was a popular design influence in Europe.
