This inkstand features a milk glass inkwell (probably once painted with green shamrocks) housed on a stamped metal base. Attached to the base is a shamrock. The shamrock is a well-known symbol in Irish culture, often associated with St. Patrick’s Day. It is a three-leaved clover, and legend has it that St. Patrick used it to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) to the Irish. The inkwell’s lid has the impression of an Oriental man holding an umbrella or parasol.
