This inkstand honors the Irish Guards. The Irish Guards were established in 1900 by Queen Victoria to honor Irishmen who had fought in the Second Boer War for the British Empire. The Irish Guards played a significant role in many pivotal battles during the First World War. They fought on the Western Front from the beginning to the end of the war.
An Irish Guards badge is affixed to the front of the brass base of the inkstand. The lid covering the glass inkwell is a repurposed Irish Guards brass coat button.
