At the rear of this brass inkstand, we see a rider on horseback in silhouette, blowing a hunting horn. The horse and rider are in mid-gallop jumping a fence. Below are hunting hounds on the chase. The base of the inkstand features designs of natural scenery, representing the countryside. The rear and middle dividers form the letter holder. Between the front and middle dividers is a stack of logs with a hinged lid which opens to the inkwell. The sound of the huntsman’s horn, the galloping horse, and the excitement of the chase echo through this inkstand.
