A Boulle double standish with tapered side and a large pen tray at the front. It is complete with two thick glass inkwells with brass / wood lids, along with a central rectangular compartment with a brass handle Boulle cover. The interior is lined with black wood.
This inkstand incorporates the ‘Boulle’ marquetry technique, named after the cabinetmaker to King Louis XIV of France, André-Charles Boulle. The technique is used to create scrolling arabesque decorations all over through brass inlay in ebonized wood.
