This Edwardian sterling silver inkstand is hallmarked for London, 1901, with the maker’s mark of Horace Woodward & Co. The inkstand features a circular, slightly dished base made of sterling silver. The rim of the base is decorated with intricate repoussé work, showcasing scrolling foliage.
Rising from the center of the silver base is a cut glass inkwell. The glass is heavy and features a distinctive spiral or swirled cutting pattern. These deep cuts create a play of light and shadow, adding brilliance and texture to the inkwell itself. The shape of the glass reservoir is slightly bulbous, fitting snugly into a silver collar at its base. The inkwell is topped with a hinged sterling silver lid. The lid is also decorated with repoussé work, echoing the style of the base’s rim.
