This Staffordshire ceramic inkwell was sculpted in the form of an elfin-faced man. The piece is designed to lie flat, allowing the man’s face to look upwards. His mouth is open, serving as the access point for the ink. A hole is present in the front of his pointed, light green and orange cap, shaped to hold a quill pen. The man’s face has a pale, rosy complexion, with painted black eyebrows and wide-open eyes, giving him a somewhat surprised or whimsical expression.
