This is a silverplate inkstand made by the silversmiths James Dixon & Sons. The inkstand features a central figure of a kangaroo standing upright. The kangaroo is realistically rendered in silverplate, capturing its characteristic posture with its powerful hind legs and tail providing support.

Flanking the kangaroo on either side are two glass inkwells. These inkwells are made of clear glass and feature a diamond-cut pattern. Each inkwell is fitted with a circular silver lid.

The inkstand rests on a rectangular silverplate tray with an elegantly wavy or scalloped border. The tray is designed with two parallel channels running along its length, serving as pen rests.

The piece bears a significant presentation date of June 4, 1901. This indicates that the inkstand was likely given as a gift or award on this specific date. The Australian motif of the kangaroo suggests a connection to Australia or perhaps commemorates an event or relationship with the country.
