This inkstand is made from gilt brass. Its design combines neo-classical motifs with rococo flourishes.
- Overall Form and Base: The inkstand has a square base with scalloped and protruding edges. The base is openwork, creating an airy, filigree effect with numerous scrolls and classical patterns.
- Stylized Lion Figures: Prominently featured on two sides are stylistic lion figures. These lions are depicted in a heraldic pose with flowing manes and muscled bodies.
- Central Inkwell Housing: At the center of the inkstand is a raised, square housing for the inkwell. This housing itself is highly decorated with intricate relief work, including floral scrolls. The top of this central housing features a hinged lid, also heavily ornamented with a tiered, pyramidal finial.
- Decorative Elements: Beyond the lions, the inkstand is replete with swirling foliate scrolls, c-scrolls, and other rococo-inspired ornamentation.
