This French inkstand dates to the late 19th century and is made from spelter metal with a bronze-like patina. The central focus of the piece is a sculpture of two horses. Both horses are rendered in detail, capturing their muscular forms and movement. The horses stand upon a sculpted base with scrolled feet featuring flowing, organic forms. Behind the horses is a pen rack. Flanking the central horse sculpture on either side are two glass inkwells. Each inkwell is fitted with a hinged lid, also made of spelter with a matching bronze-like patina. The lids are decorated with ornate finials.
