Gilt Brass Inkstand with Semi Precious Stones

Possibly originating from France in the early 19 century.

The body of the inkstand is brass with Maltese embellishments. The inkwell cup appears to be the original glass insert with a gilded brass rim (to protect the glass from becoming chipped during use).

Should you follow the teachings/practice of health effects of semi-precious stones, then you may conclude that the stones placed in this inkwell combine purposefully to remedy “Writers Block”. 

The gemstones placed in this inkstand and the properties said to be given, are as follows: 

Top/Lid

center stone in the lid:

  • Clear Quartz = Power Amplifier (healing and spiritual growth)

Tower:

West, and East sides of Inkwell tower:

  • Moss Agates = Uplifting and Soothing (self-expression and communication)

North side of Inkwell tower:

  • Carnelian Agate = Confidence (eloquent writing and speech)

South side of Inkwell tower (facing the writer):

  • Botswana Agate = Comforting and Protection (attention to details, focus)

Base:

NW, and SW corners:

  • Pink Jasper = Tranquility and Alleviate stress (stimulates thought and deep creativity).

NE, and SE corners:

  • Botswana Agate = Comforting and Protection (attention to details, focus)

Design Items needing further investigation are:

  • On the base of the N,W,S,E sides of the tower are 4x ‘Calico Scallop’ shells.
  • ‘Flor-de lis’ on the upswept cardinal sides.
  • Maltese Crosses:
    • Gilded structure (7)
    • Precious Gemstones (5).
