This is a French Empire Doré bronze inkwell, showcasing neoclassical elegance through its ormolu (gilded bronze) mounts. The square base is adorned with ormolu appliques depicting classical motifs. A central Romanesque lady plays a harp, flanked by a dynamic scene of a chariot rider in motion. Adding a Napoleonic touch is a prominent laurel wreath.
The inkwell features a hinged lid, also embellished with ormolu. The primary decoration on the lid is a majestic Roman Eagle, its wings spread, flanked by two overflowing cornucopias.
The inset inkwell is made of clear crystal and, while unsigned, is believed to be a product of the Baccarat glassworks. The bottom of the crystal inkwell is carved with a sunburst pattern.
